Family Friendly Things To Do in Devon

Devon is home to a wealth of family-friendly things to do – from coastline and moors to explore, to amusement parks and museums to spend the day, there really is something to suit every age, interest, and budget.

In this blog, we’ll shortlist some of the best family-friendly things to do in Devon, all within easy reach of our countryside hotel.

1. Westward Ho!

Northcote Manor is situated less than 20 miles from the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which includes several stunning beaches, picturesque villages, and a dramatic coastline.

Westward Ho! Is the only town in the UK to have an exclamation mark as part of its name, but is also well-known for being home to one of Devon’s most popular surfing and swimming spots. The seafront has sand, pebbles, and grasslands, making it perfect for both young families and older, more adventurous children.

There are flat areas perfect for picnics, rocky areas which form rock pools to explore, and even a sea pool for safe swimming.

If the sun is shining, you can enjoy go-karting or crazy golf, or if the weather isn’t so kind, head to an arcade or enjoy a cream tea at one of the seafront cafes (cream first, of course!).

2. RHS Garden Rosemoor

Around 20 minutes away from Northcote Manor by car is RHS Garden Rosemoor, a beautiful garden with plenty to do for children.

In addition to the gardens themselves, there are designated play areas including The Brash – a natural play area in pine woodland with living willow structures, sandpit, slide, bug magnifiers, stepping logs and climbing frames, and The Copse – suitable for slightly older children with a see-saw and spiro-giro.

The Garden also has safe and clean spots for picnics, including wooden shelters and picnic benches near the playgrounds.
