Spa Treatments by Mood: What to Book When You Need to De-Stress, Rebalance or Recharge

Sometimes, the hardest part of booking a spa experience is knowing what you need most. A deep sense of calm? A feeling of lightness in your body? Or a gentle boost to help you feel more like yourself again?

At Northcote Manor in North Devon, spa treatments are tailored not just to skin type or muscle tension, but to mood. Whether you're here for a weekend escape or simply stepping into stillness for a few hours, each treatment from the Temple Spa menu is designed to restore you in a specific way, through scent, touch, technique and time.

This guide walks you through what to book depending on how you’re feeling, with suggestions that blend expert care and sensory detail. All treatments mentioned are available at Northcote Manor’s spa, where trained therapists use Temple Spa products and rituals to care for the body, mind and mood as one.

How to Choose by Mood

There are three simple paths to help you decide what your body and mind might need today:

De-Stress:

For when your thoughts feel tangled, your shoulders are tense, and you need everything to slow down.

Rebalance:

For when your energy is sluggish, your body feels heavy, and you want to reset and feel clear again.

Recharge:

For when you’re feeling flat, emotionally tired, or just in need of a lift that’s as visible as it is internal.

Each of these moods pairs with specific spa treatments drawn from the Temple Spa collection, which you can experience in the peaceful surroundings of Northcote Manor.

De-Stress- The Deep Calm Route

If stress has been building and sleep is restless, the TEMPLESPA Drift Away massage is the ideal choice. This aromatherapy massage uses slow, rhythmical strokes and deeply relaxing oils to quieten the mind and unwind the body. It's especially helpful for those carrying tension in the back, shoulders or scalp.

For facial care with the same calming effect, try the TEMPLESPA Repose. This treatment includes a calming face and scalp massage using the award-winning Repose night cream. Designed to smooth expression lines and restore softness, it’s as much about emotional reset as skincare.

For deeper physical comfort, especially during colder months or post-travel, Rocks of the Mediterranean adds heated basalt stones to the massage, melting tightness and creating a sense of safety and warmth that lingers long after.

Rebalance - The Detox and Reset Route

When everything feels a little stuck- physically or mentally, the TEMPLESPA Work It Out massage helps get things moving again. A deep tissue massage that incorporates body brushing and stimulating oils, it targets sluggish circulation and muscle knots. The effect is both invigorating and clearing.

This treatment suits anyone who’s been seated for long periods, recovering from illness or simply feeling “foggy”. You can also request a more focused version, targeting just the back or legs, if that’s where you carry most tension.

This is one of those de-stress spa treatments that doesn’t lull you to sleep- it wakes up your system and leaves you walking taller. Bliss.

Recharge- The Energise and Glow Route

If your mood needs lifting and your skin feels dull or tired, the TEMPLESPA Feeling Good massage offers both renewal and energy. Using an uplifting blend of essential oils, this full-body massage restores tone and brightness, helping you step out feeling lighter and more yourself.

Pair it with the TEMPLESPA All About the Glow facial, a vitamin-rich treatment that combines gentle exfoliation, mask therapy and massage for skin that feels firmer, clearer and more luminous. It's a favourite among guests preparing for a celebration or weekend away.

For a more indulgent experience, especially for special occasions, the Champagne & Truffles Deluxe facial adds a layer of luxury. This includes lifting massage techniques, radiance-boosting ingredients and a cooling alginate mask, finished with a sweep of rose quartz rollers. It’s a true recharge spa experience that feels like a gift to yourself.

Pregnancy-Safe Pampering

Expectant mothers can also enjoy the benefits of spa treatments with the TEMPLESPA New Beginnings massage. Delivered by specially trained therapists, this side-lying treatment focuses on easing back pain, swelling and anxiety in a safe, supported way.

For those in their second or third trimester, a light Temple Spa facial may also be recommended. Speak with your therapist to customise the experience, always with your comfort and wellbeing at the centre.

Build Your Perfect Spa Day

Whether you’re visiting for a half-day escape or booking a longer stay, it’s easy to shape your own spa day around your chosen mood. Most guests combine one or two treatments with unhurried time in the relaxation area, followed by lunch or a walk around the Northcote Manor grounds.

Do note that spa treatments booked on their own do not include access to the full spa facilities. If you’d like to enjoy the pool, sauna or gardens before and after your treatment, consider a spa day package or overnight break, which includes facility access as standard.

Due to the popularity of the spa, especially at weekends and holiday periods, advance booking is always recommended.

Final Tips for a Restorative Visit

A few small things can help you make the most of your visit:

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to settle in and fill out your consultation
  • Drink plenty of water before and after to support your body’s response
  • Let your therapist know about any pressure preferences or sensitivities
  • Plan for some quiet time afterwards- even a short walk or herbal tea helps the effects last longer

Every guest arrives at the spa carrying something. A good treatment helps lighten the load, both inside and out.
